Mamata Banerjee Dismisses Exit Polls Showing BJP Ahead In Bengal

Most of the exit polls have predicted polls that BJP will secure more Lok Sabha seats than the TMC led by Mamta Banerjee.

Exit Polls Disputed

Most exit polls suggest that the BJP will win more Lok Sabha seats than the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has dismissed these predictions, stating they do not reflect the ground reality.

Manufactured Polls

Mamta Banerjee claimed that the exit polls were “manufactured at home” two months ago and are inaccurate. She criticised the media for broadcasting these polls and emphasised their lack of value.

She also said, “We have seen how inaccurate exit polls were in 2016, 2019, and 2021,”. “These exit polls were created for media attention and coverage and did not hold any value.”

Rally Responses

Banerjee pointed out that the response from people at her rallies contradicts the exit poll predictions. She accused the BJP of trying to manipulate voters and spreading false information.

“The BJP claimed that Muslims were taking away quotas meant for SC, ST, and OBC communities. I don’t believe Muslims will vote for BJP. I also think CPI(M) and Congress helped BJP in West Bengal,” she said.

Regional Party Support

Banerjee is optimistic about the leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, M K Stalin, and Uddhav Thackeray. She believes regional parties will perform well across the country.

When asked about her relationship with CPI(M) and Congress in West Bengal and how it might affect joining a central government, she replied, “There won’t be any issues at the national level unless CPI(M) interferes. Every regional party has its respect. We will collaborate with others if invited.”

BJP’s Confidence

State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar is confident about his party’s performance, predicting a win of at least 25 seats in West Bengal. He even expressed dissatisfaction with anything less than 30 seats.

“Two and a half years ago, I predicted we would cross the 25-mark in the Lok Sabha polls, and now everyone, including my party and the press, believes it,” Majumdar stated.

CPI(M)’s View

CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty also questioned the reliability of exit poll predictions. He believes public disagreement against the TMC will impact their performance in free and fair elections.

“Swelling public resentment against the TMC will prevent it from doing well in the Lok Sabha polls wherever free and fair elections could be held,” he claimed.
