As Sonakshi Sinha celebrates her 37th birthday today, June 2, let’s take a look at her journey in the entertainment industry, her best movies, songs, dialogues and upcoming projects.

Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of veteran star Shatrughan Sinha, has made a distinct mark in the Hindi entertainment industry. But did you know that before making it big in the film industry, Sonakshi was a costume designer and did styling in films like Mera Dil Leke Dekho? She has also walked the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week in 2008-2009.

In 2010, Sonakshi made her acting debut opposite superstar Salman Khan with the action film Dabangg. The film was a big hit and also became one of the highest-grossing films of 2010.

Journey in Hindi Cinema

Sonakshi began her acting career with the action film Dabangg in which she played Rajjo, wife of Chulbul Pandey (played by Salman Khan). The film was a big hit and minted approx. Rs 219 crore worldwide. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress Debut for her performance in Dabangg.

Post that, she appeared in several big films like Son of Sardaar, Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty, Rowdy Rathore, Dabangg 2 and Dabangg 3 among others. She gained widespread acclaim for her performance in the period drama film Lootera which also starred Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.

However, despite being a star kid, Sonakshi’s journey in the film industry was not easy. She faced several failures at the box office like Force 2, Noor, Happy Phir Bhag Jayegi, Kalank, Khandani Shafakhana and Tevar among others.

After a series of failures, it was Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal that gave her career a restart. The film also starred Vidya Balan, Sharman Joshi, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menon in the lead roles.

Post that, Sonakshi showcased her acting prowess in the OTT world. She made her debut with the web series Dahaad in which she played a cop. The series was released on Amazon Prime Video and also received decent responses from critics and audiences.

Recently, the actress was seen in director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar alongside Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari and Shamrin Segal.

Kakuda

Sonakshi will be next seen in an upcoming horror comedy film Kakuda which also stars Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem in the lead roles.

Nikita Roy and The Book of Darkness: The film marks Sonakshi’s brother Kussh S Sinha’s directorial debut. It also features Paresh Rawal and Suhail Nayyar in pivotal roles. The official release date of the film is still awaited.
