Mumbai: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered today, but not before paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, offering prayers at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place, and addressing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers at the party office.
Speaking to the media after his tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Kejriwal launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, accusing them of “dictatorship.” He proclaimed his innocence, asserting that his imprisonment was politically motivated.
“I want to tell the people of Delhi – your son is returning to jail today. This is not because I am involved in any corruption, but because I have raised my voice against dictatorship,” Kejriwal stated. He emphasized that despite extensive investigations and raids, no evidence of corruption was found against him. “During [Lok Sabha election] campaigning, the PM accepted that they don’t have any proof against me. They have raided more than 500 places but have not recovered a single penny,” he added.
Kejriwal also dismissed the recent exit polls predicting a landslide victory for the BJP-led NDA alliance and a third consecutive term for PM Modi. “All these exit polls are fake. One exit poll gave 33 seats to the BJP in Rajasthan, whereas there are only 25 seats there,” he said, highlighting the discrepancies and casting doubt on their validity.
He further suggested that the exit polls might be part of a larger scheme to influence the outcome of the elections. “The real issue is why they had to do a fake exit poll 3 days before the day of counting. There are several theories regarding this, one of them is that they are trying to manipulate the machines (EVMs),” Kejriwal speculated.
As Kejriwal faces this latest challenge, his defiant rhetoric and accusations against the ruling party are likely to resonate with his supporters and further polarize the political landscape in Delhi.
